What It Does & Why It Matters

Know exactly what’s in your tanks at all times without manual checking. Venturi’s ATG provides remote, real-time monitoring of diesel fuel and water storage levels across your facilities. This means you can avoid critical fuel shortages (for generators or vehicles) and water outages by receiving timely alerts and insights. It matters because uninterrupted operations rely on these fluids – preventing run-outs, scheduling efficient refills, and detecting anomalies saves both time and money. For example, a backup generator at a bank must have sufficient diesel, and hotel kitchens and facilities must have adequate water. Venturi’s ATG ensures you’re never caught off guard. In short, this service delivers peace of mind, improved safety, and proactive management of your critical water and fuel resources.

Automatic Tank Gauging Features

Real-Time Level Monitoring

Continuous measurement of tank contents (diesel, petrol, water, etc.) with frequent polling to ensure accuracy. You can view current fuel volume and water levels on a dashboard anytime, anywhere, instead of climbing tanks to dip them, or relying on manual gauges that require a team member to travel to the facility. This improves safety and saves labour by eliminating manual processes.

Smart Alerts & Notifications

Get automatic alerts via SMS/email when levels cross critical thresholds (e.g. low fuel warning or a potable water re-order notification). The system issues alarms for high or low levels so you can react immediately. For instance, send a notification to your fuel supplier when diesel drops to 20%, or get an alert if water in a tank falls below operational needs. These notifications can also indicate rapid drops (fuel theft or leakage) or unexpected fills (contamination risk), keeping you informed and able to react to abnormal events.

Fuel Theft Detection

Advanced monitoring algorithms can detect unusual fuel level changes. A sudden overnight drop in fuel level can trigger an instant theft alert, enabling you to respond or investigate promptly. Additional hardware, like flow sensors on tank outlets or CCTV, can be integrated if there is a high risk of pilferage, dramatically reducing losses.

Integration with Suppliers & Systems

Venturi's platform can share tank data with your fuel suppliers or existing management systems. For example, you can grant suppliers secure access to tank level data so they can proactively schedule refuelling when levels are low. This creates a 'vendor-managed inventory' model where fuel deliveries are optimised and you never run out. The system also supports API integration with external fleet or facility management software, meaning your ATG data can feed into broader operational dashboards or logistics systems.

Multi-Tank, Multi-Site Dashboard

Monitor all your tanks across all sites in one place. Venturi's Asset Management Platform provides a unified dashboard (web and mobile) to view every tank's status with simple colour-coded indicators (e.g. green/yellow/red for sufficient, low, critical). Whether you have one tank or dozens spread over multiple locations, you'll see all fluid levels at a glance on a map or list view. This fleet-wide transparency helps prioritise refills and manage resources efficiently.

Battery-Powered, Low-Power Option

For remote or mobile tank deployments lacking permanent power, the ATG kit can run on battery with configurable polling intervals. The sensor and Venturi Field Gateway can be set to report levels periodically (for example, every hour or twice a day) to conserve power. This low-power design also uses efficient cellular IoT connectivity, keeping data costs low while still sending critical alerts in real time. Our low-cost alert mode can send a minimal data packet when thresholds are crossed, ensuring you receive key warnings even without constant connectivity.

Industrial-Grade Sensors

Venturi's ATG uses hydrostatic level probes and other robust sensing technology to accurately measure fluid depth in your tanks. These probes sit near the tank bottom and measure pressure to calculate liquid levels with high precision. The sensors are sealed and rated for harsh environments (fuel-safe materials, water resistance, wide temperature range), so they perform reliably on industrial sites, agricultural settings, or in underground tanks.

Rugged Venturi Field Gateway

All sensor data feeds into Venturi's Industrial Field Gateway – a durable on-site controller that consolidates data and transmits it securely to the cloud. The VFG-500 interfaces with your level probe/s, handles local data logging, and uploads readings via 4G cellular or other networks. It's built for tough conditions (industrial temperature ranges, resilient to shock/vibration/ingress) and ensures secure, reliable connectivity for your tank data. An optional satellite antenna can be added for locations with no cellular coverage, guaranteeing that even the most remote tanks stay connected. This means whether your tank is in the city or the middle of a mine site, you'll receive the data.

Not an Overfill Prevention Device

Venturi's ATG is focused on cost-efficient monitoring and alerting. It is distinct from a tank overfill or safety shutoff system. Our ATG solution will warn you of high levels, but does not physically stop filling. This clear differentiation ensures compliance and safety: use ATG for inventory management and separate safety mechanisms for overflow prevention. If you require tank safety upgrades, we can support you via our specialist local partners, as part of the same project.

Flexible Pricing Model

Venturi offers ATG as a scalable solution with pricing that's designed to fit your needs. For most deployments, we provide the hardware (sensors, gateway) with a monthly service plan covering the platform and connectivity. This subscription-based model means very low upfront costs. Pricing can be structured per tank or per site, with economies of scale as the number of monitored tanks increases. Exact quotes are based on tank quantity, the required accuracy level, data reporting frequency, and specific site conditions. This approach ensures you only pay for what you need, and the ROI is quickly realised by preventing fuel run-outs and optimising deliveries.

How It Works (Technology & Installation)

Venturi’s ATG solution is comprised of a few simple components installed in and near your tank, backed by powerful cloud software:

Tank Sensors: A high-accuracy level sensor (typically a hydrostatic probe or similar) is installed in each tank (diesel or water). This probe continuously measures the fluid level. Because it’s an electronic sensor, it provides instant readings and can take measurements as frequently as needed – effectively ‘dipping’ the tank for you every few minutes without any manual effort. The sensor is generally inserted from the top of the tank, depending on the tank design. Installation via existing ports avoids tank modification and can usually be done while the tank is in service.

Industrial Field Gateway (VFG-500): Near the tank, our compact industrial IoT controller interfaces with the level sensor. The gateway collects the sensor’s analog readings and converts them to readable tank level data. It then uses in-built communications modules to send that data securely to the Venturi cloud platform. The VFG-500 supports multiple sensor inputs and output controls, making it future-ready if you upgrade to controlling pumps or additional sensors. It’s typically mounted in a weatherproof enclosure on or near the tank. For power, the gateway can either connect to mains/solar power or utilise an internal backup battery during periods of power outage. In battery-only deployments, the gateway wakes up at set intervals to transmit data and then returns to a power conservation mode.

Connectivity (Cellular/Satellite): Once data is collected, the gateway transmits it over a wireless network. By default, it uses a built-in cellular modem to communicate with Venturi’s cloud platform. In remote areas with poor cellular coverage, optional long-range cellular antennas, or a satellite uplink can be deployed – the gateway connects to a satellite antenna out of the box, ensuring no tank is ever out of reach. All communication is encrypted and secure, leveraging Venturi’s proprietary IoT infrastructure. Even if the network is temporarily unavailable, the gateway will store readings offline (data logging) and forward them when connectivity is restored.

Venturi Cloud Platform: The data from your physical work locations is sent to the Venturi Asset Management Platform, our cloud-based monitoring software. Here it is aggregated, processed, and presented to users. You get a single-pane-of-glass view of tank levels across all your sites. The platform allows you to set up custom alert rules (e.g., alert at 15% fuel remaining), generate reports (consumption over time, daily usage), and even predict when a tank will require refilling based on trends. Because Venturi’s platform is unified for all asset types, you can cross-reference tank data with other systems (for example, link fuel levels to generator performance or vehicle usage if using Venturi’s other solutions).

Installation & Setup: Venturi’s team and field service partners are able to handle the entire installation process. ATG deployments are delivered as a tailored installation – our technicians review your tank setup, select the appropriate sensor type (accounting for tank size, fluid type, and required accuracy), and install the hardware on-site. Typically, an existing port on the tank is used for the sensor; wiring is run to the gateway unit mounted nearby. We calibrate the system by inputting the tank’s dimensions into our software so that raw sensor data translates immediately into accurate volume readings.

Operation & Maintenance: Once installed, the ATG system operates automatically. Your team can log into the Venturi platform (via web browser or mobile device) to check tank statuses anytime. The system will also push alerts as configured, so minimal daily intervention is needed. Maintenance is straightforward – the sensors are solid-state with no moving parts and require little regular maintenance. The gateway may have a backup battery that needs replacement every few years if used heavily on battery power. Venturi’s support team monitors device health remotely (e.g., if a sensor goes offline or a battery is low, we can alert you or dispatch service). Because our hardware is industrial-grade, it’s designed to withstand harsh conditions and provide long service life.

Use Cases & Industry Applications

Venturi’s ATG is a versatile solution that fits any scenario where tracking liquid levels is critical. Some key use cases and industries include:

Backup Power Fuel Monitoring (Banks, Hospitals, Hotels): In sectors like banking, healthcare, and hospitality, backup generators are mission-critical. These often rely on on-site diesel tanks. Our ATG ensures that these diesel fuel tanks are always topped up and ready when required. For example, a bank’s data centre fuel tank can be monitored 24/7 – if fuel falls below, say, 50%, the facilities team gets an alert to order fuel. This prevents a situation where a power outage hits and the generator fails because it runs out of fuel unexpectedly. Similarly, hospitals and hotels benefit from guaranteed generator readiness through constant fuel level oversight.

Construction & Mining (Mobile Tankers and Site Tanks): Construction sites, mining operations, and remote infrastructure projects often use mobile fuel tanks or tanktainers and bowsers to refuel machinery, as well as large water tanks for dust control or potable water. Venturi’s ATG can be deployed on mobile fuel trailers/trucks to track how much fuel is left as they move between sites. This helps managers plan refuelling runs and avoid sending out a tanker that’s nearly empty. For stationary fuel tanks, ATG provides theft detection (common in remote sites where fuel theft can be an issue) and ensures generators and heavy equipment always have fuel. Water tanks on site (for example, water supply in a remote camp or for drilling operations) can likewise be monitored to schedule water deliveries or pump activation.

Manufacturing & Industrial Facilities: Manufacturing plants that use diesel and other fuels for process equipment, or water for cooling, staff facilities, and fire suppression, can use Venturi’s ATG solution to maintain operational continuity. For instance, a factory with its own fuel depot for forklifts and trucks can monitor usage and plan bulk fuel purchases just-in-time, improving cash flow. A food processing facility might have large water storage for cleaning, boiling, and as a fire reserve – knowing the volume in real time helps with compliance and safety. Automatic Tank Gauging also assists with environmental monitoring (eg, detecting leaks in tanks by tracking unexplained losses over time).

Telecom & Remote Infrastructure: Telecom towers and remote infrastructure sites (like off-grid solar farms or rural communication towers) frequently rely on diesel generators with fuel tanks or have water tanks for maintenance crews. These sites are often unmanned and hard to reach. Venturi’s ATG, especially with satellite communication, is ideal here: a telecom company can remotely monitor fuel across hundreds of tower sites and send refuelling trucks exactly when needed, rather than on a fixed schedule. This can drastically cut down unnecessary visits and ensure no tower ever goes offline due to empty fuel.

Agriculture & Utilities: Farms and agricultural operations store fuels and water. With ATG, a farm cooperative could centrally monitor fuel tanks across multiple farms, negotiating fuel deliveries in bulk when levels are low. Water tanks for livestock or other site requirements can be tracked to prevent any outages. In utilities (power generation or water treatment), chemical tanks and fuel tanks are common – our solution gives operators a remote eye on these to prevent shortages that could disrupt service.

Mobile Fuel Services: Organisations that manage fuel logistics can equip their tanker trucks with ATG. Command centres then see in real time how much fuel each truck has left and where it’s used, enabling efficient routing of resources, and service assurance for clients. Trucks will turn up to make deliveries only when there is sufficient space in the tank for them to unload!

Across these use cases, common benefits are realised: no more manual tank inspections, prevention of surprise outages, improved fuel logistics, and enhanced security of all valuable liquid assets. The industries above have seen improved uptime and cost savings by using Venturi’s ATG to turn previously ‘dumb tanks’ into smart, connected assets.
